Hyundai FC - Meet the Teams

Hyundai FC – Meet the Teams: Whiteley Wanderers

We’ve partnered with the Chelsea FC Foundation to launch Hyundai FC - a flagship grassroots football initiative to support junior football clubs up and down the country.

From Southampton to Durham, Hyundai FC is made up of 11 grassroots clubs ranging from under-8s to under-15s, each of which we will profile throughout 2019. The next team to introduce is Whiteley Wanderers.

Team name: Whiteley Wanderers
Location: Whiteley, Hampshire
Age group: Under-12
Coach: Karlos Miller

Whiteley Wanderers U-12 boys team are from Whiteley in Hampshire. They are a defensively solid team who have been coached by Karlos Miller for the past five years and are sponsored by their local dealership network – Richmond Hyundai.

This season, Whiteley and the 10 other Hyundai FC teams have been given the ultimate football experience – the chance to play on Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge pitch, bespoke coaching sessions with Chelsea Foundation coaches and new Nike clubs kits and tracksuits.

Speaking about his team and the Hyundai FC initiative, Whiteley coach, Karlos Miller said: “I’ve coached this side for five years and seeing the development of the kids, especially when they start at such a young age, has been really enjoyable to watch. They’re a good bunch of lads – a handful sometimes – but they’ve got a great togetherness even though they go to different schools.”

“The Chelsea Foundation coaches have been great and our gratitude at being able to build a relationship with them shouldn’t be underestimated. They’ve had a huge impact, not only on myself and the team but the club as a whole.”

In September, Karlos and some of the other Hyundai FC coaches visited Chelsea’s Cobham training ground to watch Frank Lampard and the first team in action, before participating in a coaching education session with the club’s training staff.

In October, the Chelsea Foundation coaches paid Whiteley and the other Hyundai FC teams another visit to give them more in-depth training and apply their new skills and knowledge in a competitive match environment.
