Meet The Teams - Kilgetty

Hyundai FC - Meet the Team: Kilgetty AFC

We’ve partnered with the Chelsea FC Foundation to launch Hyundai FC - a flagship grassroots football initiative to support junior football clubs up and down the country.

From Southampton to Durham, Hyundai FC is made up of 11 grassroots clubs ranging from under-8s to under-15s, each of which we will profile throughout 2019. The next team to introduce is Kilgetty AFC.

Team name: Kilgetty AFC

Location: Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire

Age group: Under-13

Coach: Sam Franklin

The Junior Boys Under-13 team are from Kilgetty in Wales. They are a well-balanced side who have been coached by Sam since they were Under-8s and are sponsored by local dealership, Station Garage Kilgetty.

This summer, Kilgetty and the 10 other Hyundai FC teams were given the ultimate football experience – the chance to play on Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge pitch, bespoke coaching sessions with Chelsea Foundation coaches and new Nike clubs kits and tracksuits.

Speaking about the team and the Hyundai FC initiative, Kilgetty coach, Sam Franklin said: “I’ve coached the boys since they were under-8s. They were the first team I coached so it’s great to still be with them after 6 years. They have a great attitude: win, lose or draw we always walk away from the game having a laugh which I think is important.”

“The pitch day was great as it enabled me to learn different ideas on coaching which I can use with the Kilgetty team. I’ve coached with Swansea City in the past so it was interesting to compare how other clubs do things. As a coach you’re always learning and developing so the pitch day has certainly helped with that.”

Later this month Sam and the other Hyundai FC coaches will be heading to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground to watch Frank Lampard and the first team in action before being put through their paces as they participate in a coaching session with the club’s academy teams.

Check back here throughout 2019 to find out more about the rest of our Hyundai FC clubs.
