The Hyundai Mercury Prize, the Mercury Prize’s title partner, and BBC Music, the Prize’s broadcast partner, have announced their plans for this year’s Prize.
As all events are subject to current Government guidelines & restrictions, there will not be a physical awards show this year. However there will be extensive television, radio and online coverage of the Prize across the BBC as both parties feel it is important in the current crisis to continue to showcase and celebrate the achievements of the 12 artists shortlisted for the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize.
Like the artists shortlisted for the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize, Hyundai challenges convention in all they do. They are looking forward to celebrating and supporting innovations in British music. The 2020 virtual event schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, 23 September 10pm – 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ programme featuring specially filmed live performances from many of the shortlisted artists (BBC Four)
Thursday, 24 September – Overall winner announcement of the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize (BBC One, The One Show)
Friday, 25 September – ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ special reviewing the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize and featuring an interview with the winning artist & some live performances (BBC Two)
